  IntegratedML—the machine learning component built into InterSystems IRIS® data platform—solves problems in a number of fields, including healthcare. In this exercise, you will use IntegratedML to create, train, and execute a predictive model on a set of sample patient data to predict readmissions.

  By the end of this exercise, you will be able to:
  

  • Define IntegratedML.
  • Create a model definition.
  • Train a model on a set of training data.
  • Execute a model on set of testing data.
  • Validate a model and view the results.
  • Choose a different provider to train and test models.

  • Launch Your Lab

    Use the online lab provided to complete this exercise.
  •  You must be logged in to launch this lab.
  • Open your exercise notebook

    1. From the desktop of your lab, double-click the Visual Studio Code icon to open VS Code.
    2. Select the Hands-on with IntegratedML notebook in the project explorer to open the Jupyter notebook for this exercise. When prompted to install the Python extension, install it.
    3. Read through the exercise introduction and the tips about using the notebook.
  • Install Python dependencies

    1. Run the first block in the exercise notebook, which begins with !pip install.
       The top of your VS Code window will prompt you to choose a kernel source.
    2. Select Python Environments, then select the recommended option from the choices.
       
    3. When prompted, select Install to install the ipykernel package.
    4. Once the installation is complete and the initial block has finished running, run the other Python setup block.

  • Complete the exercise notebook

    1. Complete all of the blocks of code in this exercise notebook, reading the descriptions between commands to understand the full context of what you are running.
       While some longer commands are running, explore the resources linked throughout the exercise.
